When considering colleges that are known for their pre-law majors, one may immediately think of Harvard, Yale, or Dartmouth. Student can receive a valued education in pre-law from a wide variety of colleges across the country. This article will present four colleges that offer a great pre-law major.
Dickinson College
With an enrollment of little over 2000, Dickinson College is a small liberal arts school in rural Pennsylvania. The school correlates the pre-law program with a well-rounded liberal arts education. Pre-law majors at Dickinson will take a variety of courses for the major: economics, history, philosophy, political science, sociology, and English.
Dickinson will also provide pre-law majors with outside of the classroom experiences. Student will be provided an advisor who will assist in graduate school applications. LSAT test preparation is readily available. Finally, the Dickinson Law Society provides undergraduates an opportunity to explore cases through mock trial and litigation process.
Tulane University
Graduate programs in law will admit students who major in virtually any degree. At Tulane most pre-law students major in political science. The university requires political science majors to take courses in American Political Processes and Institutions; Comparative Political Processes Institutions; International Politics, Organization, and Law; and Political Theory.
Outside of the classroom Tulane Political Science majors can experience Pi Sigma Alpha, study abroad programs in Guadalajara, Mexico or San Jose, Costa Rica; internships, and a semester swap at American University in Washington D.C.
Augsburg College
Located in Minnesota, Augsburg College encourages students to take their political science curriculum to prepare for law school. The major integrates components of higher level thinking skills, public speaking, effective writing skills. Courses examples include American Government and Politics, Law in the United States, Constitutional Law, Western Political Thought, Political Parties and Behavior, and Logic.
Political science majors at Augsburg can also participate outside activities. The department allows for students to apply for a experience at The Washington Center. Additionally, the college has a Student International Negotiating Team, which investigates United Nation issues. The school also has a pre-law club.
Goucher College
Goucher College allows students to create their own “interdisciplinary program of study.” Students are also required to complete a study abroad program or internship to demonstrate and apply their knowledge and training from Goucher.
The pre-law program is actually a concentration, which combines with another major in communication, economics, English, history, management, or political science. The purpose is to provide students with effective writing skills and analytical skills.
Students can find multiple colleges in the United States that will effectively train students for law school.
