Find the Perfect Present for a Graduating Student

Graduation from high school or college is a momentous occasion to be celebrated. Congratulate the graduate with a graduation gift.

Graduating from school is a milestone that most remember with fondness. It is the close of one chapter and the beginning of so many new adventures. Traditionally, gifts are given to graduates to celebrate this passage. While the most popular gift may be cash, there are alternatives that can be a big hit among graduating seniors as well. Put some extra thought into the graduate's gift and give it to a favorite graduate with a card filled with tidbits of wisdom as they start their new journey.

Inspirational Book

The Dr. Seuss book, Oh the Places You’ll Go!, is the perfect story for a graduate. In classic style, it covers all of the places the person will go and the incredible world that is waiting to be discovered. Inspire them with this book that will not only remind them of the Dr. Seuss books they read as a child, but encourage them to take on their new adventure with gusto.

Signature Gifts

Create a keepsake for the graduate with a personalized gift full of congratulatory messages from loved ones and friends. The signature platter will make a great display in their first dorm room or apartment.

Or opt for a picture frame mat that can be framed with their favorite cap and gown picture. Display the signature gift at the graduation party and encourage all attendees to leave a message of congratulations or piece of advice for the graduate.

New Home Gifts

Whether his new home will be a dorm room or apartment, he is sure to need a variety of items for his new place. Fill a laundry basket or collapsible laundry bag with all of the necessities including cleaning supplies, fluffy towels and snacks. Tuck in a gift card so he can shop for decor to make his place his own.

To make a big impact with the graduate, give the gift of electronics. A laptop will certainly come in handy whether the graduate is headed to college or his first job. Or give her the chance to document her new adventures with a digital camera. An iPod or LCD television can provide entertainment in her new home.

Personalized Gifts

Silver charms, bracelets and pendants can make great gifts for her as she graduates. A piece of jewelry engraved with her name, initials or graduation year will be a lasting reminder of her accomplishment.

When the college graduate is beginning a new job, personalize a leather portfolio or laptop case for him. Help him make a professional impression on his first day in a new workplace while keeping him organized.

The most important aspect of giving a graduation gift is to give it with the graduate in mind. Think about what the new graduate will need as she moves on to the next phase on her life. For the more sentimental types, a gift to help her remember the amazing times as she worked towards her diploma will be sure to be a hit. Make the gift personalized for the graduate's personality to show pride in their accomplishment.

I had my son make a graduation wishlist on myregistry.com. I wanted some ideas, but I still wanted it to be a surprise, so after he had selected a bunch of different things he wanted, we picked one but he didn't know which one he was getting.
